Fabrication and project engineering
Fabrication & Project Engineering
Metal fabrication, welding, laser cutting, forming and structural work for process equipment, skids, frames, supports and enclosures, quoted from drawings with clear material, finish, inspection and installation requirements.
Typical challenges
Where customers usually start
- One-off or low-volume parts that standard suppliers cannot provide
- Skids, frames and supports needed to integrate equipment on site
- Stainless-steel fabrication for hygienic or corrosive environments
- Onsite modifications during shutdowns or installations
- Incomplete drawings that need to be developed before fabrication
- Coordinating inspection, finish and delivery across several items
Fabrication that starts from the drawing
Fabricated metalwork often holds a process together: skids that carry pumps and filters, frames for machines, supports for pipework and spray headers, platforms, enclosures and cabinets. This capability covers sheet-metal and structural fabrication, stainless-steel components, laser cutting, forming and bending, welded assemblies and onsite fabrication and installation, with inspection and project coordination alongside. It can also provide the structural base for equipment supplied under other capabilities, such as spray systems, treatment skids or control panels.
Because fabricated items are made to order, the quality of the result depends on the quality of the information at the start. A dimensioned drawing, the material grade and thickness, the welding and finish requirements and the inspection expected all affect how the work is planned and costed. Where only a concept or sketch exists, the drawing and its open points need to be developed and agreed before fabrication begins.
Planning the scope
Beyond the item itself, it helps to define who supplies bought-out parts, whether surface treatment or painting is required, how the item will be transported and lifted, and whether site measurement, erection or welding at site forms part of the work. Quantity and delivery timing influence the method of manufacture. Early clarity on these points reduces revisions and makes the proposal easier to compare.

Frequently asked questions
What should I send for a fabrication quotation?
Send dimensioned drawings or sketches, the material and grade, plate or sheet thickness, any welding standard or procedure requirement, the surface finish, quantity, inspection or documentation needs, and whether delivery, installation or site work is included. Photographs of the location help when the item must fit existing structures.
Can work be quoted without a full drawing?
An initial discussion is possible from a sketch, photograph or description, but a firm price normally needs agreed dimensions, material and finish. Where a drawing is not available, the missing details are listed so they can be developed and agreed before fabrication.
Can fabrication include site installation?
Site measurement, erection and welding can be included where they are part of the agreed scope. Please state site access, working hours, any permit requirements and the extent of installation needed so that it can be considered in the proposal.
