PTFE hose with stainless steel braid

Overview

PTFE hose combines the chemical resistance of fluoropolymer with flexibility, which makes it a common choice for acids, solvents and other aggressive media, and for hygienic duties in pharmaceutical and food handling. A stainless steel wire braid over the PTFE core adds pressure capacity and protects the hose; a corrugated PTFE core improves flexibility and bend radius. The source listing gives single lengths from 1 m to 6 m and an operating temperature range of -73 °C to +260 °C. PTFE compression fittings, plates and bellows are also available for related piping work.

Selecting a PTFE hose

Confirm the fluid and its concentration and temperature, then the working pressure, which decides whether a braided construction is needed. Consider the bend radius available and choose smooth-bore or corrugated core accordingly. Specify the end fitting type and material at each end, and the overall length.

Frequently asked questions

When is PTFE hose a better choice than rubber or metal hose?

PTFE hose is usually considered when the fluid would attack rubber linings, or when cleanliness and low contamination matter. Compared with corrugated metal hose, a PTFE-lined hose can resist media that would corrode stainless steel. Pressure, temperature and bend radius still need checking for the specific construction.

What details should a PTFE hose enquiry include?

Give the hose bore, overall length, construction (plain, braided or corrugated), end fittings at each end, fluid, working pressure and temperature, and quantity. Mention any hygiene or anti-static requirements so the construction can be confirmed. You can request material details for the core and braid with the quotation.
