AMR feasibility assessment

Feasibility assessment for autonomous mobile robots and AGVs, reviewing material flows, loads, routes, site conditions and system interfaces to decide whether mobile automation fits and how it should be scoped.

Overview

A feasibility assessment is the discovery and survey stage of a mobile-robot project. It records what moves, between which points and how often; the loads and how they are handled at each end; route widths, floors, slopes, doors, lifts and blind corners; interactions with people and other vehicles; charging locations; and the systems that will create and confirm tasks. Hazards and operating modes are identified early.

The output is a recommendation on vehicle type, routes, interfaces and safety measures, with the open questions to resolve before engineering.

What the assessment considers

Key considerations are payload and transfer method, throughput and timing, route geometry and floor condition, traffic and restricted zones, network coverage, WMS, WCS, ERP or MES integration, and how operators will interact with the system. Starting with the most repetitive, well-defined flow often gives the clearest result.

Frequently asked questions

What should we prepare for a feasibility study?

Prepare a site layout, a list of the material flows you want to automate with approximate volumes and timings, photographs of loads and transfer points, and details of doors, lifts and ramps on the routes. Information on your WMS, ERP or MES and network coverage helps assess integration.

What does the study deliver?

The study gives a view on whether mobile robots suit the chosen flows, the recommended vehicle type and routes, required interfaces and safety measures, and the open points to resolve. It forms the basis for a detailed proposal if you decide to proceed.
