Overview

Instrumentation tube fittings join the small-bore tubing that links process connections to gauges, transmitters, analysers and control valves. The family brings together twin-ferrule tube fittings with the threaded pipe fittings that go with them: male and female connectors, unions and reducing unions, nipples, bushings, couplings, caps, plugs, elbows, tees and crosses. Stainless steel 304 and 316 are the usual body materials. Carbon steel, mild steel, brass, titanium and nickel alloys are listed for particular media. Sizes run from 1/8 in to 2 in depending on fitting type, with NPT, BSP and BSPT threaded ends.

Selecting instrumentation fittings

Keep tube, ferrule and body material consistent across a line, and match the fitting to tube outside diameter and wall thickness. Check that the thread standard at each instrument or process port is known before ordering, since NPT and BSP threads are not interchangeable. For seawater, chloride or aggressive chemical service, consider a nickel alloy or titanium option.

Frequently asked questions

Which material should I choose for instrumentation fittings?

Stainless steel 316 is the common default for process instrumentation because of its general corrosion resistance. Brass suits low-risk utility air and water lines. Nickel-copper and nickel-chromium alloys or titanium are considered for seawater, chlorides or specific chemicals. Whatever you choose, keep tube, ferrules and body in compatible materials and confirm suitability for your media.

What information is needed for a quote?

Provide a list of fittings by type, tube outside diameter, wall thickness, thread type and size at each threaded port, material, working pressure, temperature and media, and quantities. A hook-up drawing or bill of materials is ideal. You can request material test certificates with the supply.
