Water treatment
Industrial water-quality assessment
Assessment of industrial water sources and uses, including water-quality testing and site surveys, carried out before designing or upgrading treatment, softening, filtration or recycling systems.
Overview
Treatment design depends on knowing what is in the water and how it is used. A water-quality assessment collects samples from each source, such as borewell, municipal supply or recycled water, and tests the parameters that drive equipment selection: TDS, hardness, iron, silica, turbidity, organics and microbiology. A site survey maps flows, storage, existing equipment and points of use. The results form the design basis for any new plant and highlight where existing equipment is underperforming or where water could be reused.
What an assessment considers
The scope depends on the purpose: specifying a new plant, troubleshooting an existing one, or identifying reuse opportunities. Consider which sources and outlets to sample, whether seasonal variation needs repeat testing, the quality targets for each use, available utilities and space, and any discharge limits.

Frequently asked questions
Which parameters are usually tested?
For most industrial projects the core set is pH, TDS or conductivity, total hardness, alkalinity, iron, manganese, silica, chloride, turbidity and organics. Microbiological tests are added for drinking or hygienic uses, and BOD, COD and oil for wastewater. The final list depends on the source and the intended use of the treated water.
What should I prepare before an assessment visit?
Gather any past water test reports, a list of water sources and approximate daily consumption, a site layout showing tanks and main equipment, and details of any problems such as scaling, staining or equipment failures. Let us know the treated water uses and quality targets so sampling can be planned around them.
